Matt Smith Plans To Exit Doctor Who
Yeah, I know I am a few days behind on this one. But, it still pains me so such to know that my Doctor, our 11th Doctor, will be gone after this year’s Christmas Special. Instead of getting into speculation right now as to who the next Doctor should be, why don’t I share with you Matt Smith’s words about leaving. There will be time enough later to speculate, because we are dealing with a time lord after all, and all they’ve got is time:
When you gotta go, you’ve gotta go. Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans. It’s been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he’s a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor. The fans are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show – and speculate more about the future of the show – in a way that I have never seen before, [their] dedication is truly remarkable. I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I’m back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special. It’s been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with ‘the ginger, the nose and the impossible one’. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys.

First Machete Kills Trailer Released
I’ve been in love with this style of filmmaking since I sat through the three hours of Grindhouse in April of 2007. Although other filmmakers have fallen off with their plans of making more of these type of films, director Robert Rodriguez has not, and it shows in this first trailer for his upcoming sequel Machete Kills. And, judging from it, if you liked the first one, you’re gonna love his one, too.
Now, if we can get Eli Roth off his butt to make Thanksgiving, and Edgar Wright away from Ant-Man to make Don’t, I think I could die happy. Well, those and Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the SS. Then I’d be happy.
What do you think about the whole faux Grindhouse genre?
Machete Kills is directed by Robert Rodriguez. It stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Lady Gaga, and Carlos Estevez (Charlie Sheen). The film will release on September 13, 2013.
Benicio Del Toro and Karen Gillan Join Guardians of the Galaxy
The list of names attached to Guardians of the Galaxy just keeps getting better and better. Last week, it was announced that Doctor Who alum Karen Gillan, who played companion Amy Pond, was cast as an unnamed villain in the film. And, this week, it was announced that Benicio Del Toro, known for his performance as Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, has also been cast in the film. While most of the hero team has been filled, it seems safe to say that Del Toro will be a villain as well. Joey Paur of GeekTyrant believes that he could play the warrior from the moon Titan, Thanos. If so, that could tie Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers together.
As for Gillan, it isn’t clear who she’d be playing. From my research, I’ve found that there is a red-headed villainess named Mindscan that could fit her physically. Mindscan is the right hand of Rancor, a fifth generation descendant of Wolverine who rules the planet Haven in the 31st Century. Mindscan, like Rancor, is a mutant. According to ComicVine, her powers are listed as such:
- Attractive Female
I’ve never heard of a character having the power of “Attractive Female,” but I’d suppose that Gillan would fit that bill very well. But, who knows what they’re doing with these characters. This set of heroes is quite obscure, especially seeing that the Guardians aren’t your run-of-the-mill, high-profile Marvel characters. So, who knows what sort of villains the writers of the film are going to throw their way.
