Gotham, Fox Television’s latest trek back into the live-action world of DC Comics since the 1966 Batman series, has been picked up for a full season order. In addition to the full season announcement, Fox also released an extended trailer for the upcoming season, which will air this fall, that you can check out below. Gotham is just one of a slew of DC-based televisions shows hoping to make it this year. Others include The Flash (The CW), Constantine (NBC), and iZombie (The CW). Rumors still exist of an Hourman series that’s in the works, and a Preacher and DMZ series that are currently in development.
Gotham tells the story of a young Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who, partnered with the rough Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), are called to investigate the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne, a wealthy Gotham family. During his investigation, Gordon meets the Waynes’ only son, Bruce (David Mazouz), and feels more compelled than ever to solve the crime. But, as Gotham is, there is also a number of other crimes that will take Gordon’s time, and a slew of future criminals that will be waiting for infamy.
Personally, this series looks more appealing than I had originally thought. It seems that it may play out a little like a police procedural, which I’m all behind. But, I am also a little disappointed that the look of the series doesn’t match the logo Fox released a few months ago. With the dirigibles floating above the city (a very Batman: The Animated Series feel), I had hoped that this show would be a prequel of sorts to the Batman we’ll see in Batman vs Superman, but it doesn’t appear to be so. It looks like this series will be a modern take on the Batman origin with a bit of Gotham Central thrown in for good measure. Nevertheless, I’ll still be tuning in this fall.
What do you think of the first trailer for Gotham?
