When I started out writing this post last night, there was one update to talk about. But, when I woke up this morning, there were two more news stories that I felt needed put down onto digital paper. So, here we go:
Star Wars VII Has A Working Title
Ever since the announcement of a new Star Wars trilogy, many questions were in my mind. Who will be starring in the films? What is the timeline? Will anyone from the original trilogy be back? Are the events of the Expanded Universe applicable to the new films? And, finally, what are we going to call the thing? Well, thanks to a passionate and curious fanbase, we now have the answers to all of those questions, including recent announcement of the film’s working title. From now on and until they change it, we can refer to the upcoming trilogy opener as:
Star Wars, Episode VII – The Ancient Fear.
The title, which was first revealed by Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles, opens up more questions about the plot of the much anticipated film. In thinking about the Star Wars Universe and what an “ancient fear” could be, I can only come up with the thought that a new order of Sith are on the rise. Since the Jedi have returned and over 30 years have past, it would only be logical that the Force is trying to balance itself back out again. But, who’s to know? Here’s to hoping we get some plot details very soon!
And, with more Star Wars film news:
There Could Be At Least Three Spin-Off Films
According to Variety’s Marc Graser, confirming that there will be at least three spin-off films in the works.
Three more films will be made, meant to straddle the gaps between the main films in the new trilogy. Here’s how I broke down the film releases back in April of 2013. It seems that I already knew there would be three spin-offs for some reason. Strong in the Force I am, I suppose.
Summer 2015 – Star Wars: Episode VII
Summer 2016 – Star Wars Stand Alone Character Film
Summer 2017 (40th Anniversary) – Star Wars: Episode VIII
Summer 2018 – Star Wars Stand Alone Character Film
Summer 2019 – Star Wars: Episode IX
Summer 2020 – Star Wars Stand Alone Character Film
What those spin-off films will be is still a mystery. With the exclusion of the Expanded Universe, the possibility of a Boba Fett movie (the most desired spin-off film) may be out of the question, but it’s hard to tell. Although many fans want origin films for their favorite characters, I’d think that it could end up being films that function within the new trilogy. But, it’s hard to tell at this point. When it is known, I shall let you know!
Star Wars Battlefront News Coming to E3
Last year at E3, EA showed the crowd in attendance a small clip from their upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game, and not much else was said about it, except that it will use the state-of-the-art Frostbite 3 engine to create it. So, any new news about it is more than welcome.
According to The Nerdist, EA CEO Andrew Wilson talked recently during an investors conference call about the state of the game. What we know is that it is still being made, and that we may see something about it during this year’s E3 convention. From The Nerdist:
“Battlefront [is] coming along very well,” he stated before further emphasizing that the Frostbite 3 engine would help to “drive innovation with high quality.” While there’s still “lots of work to go,” EA isn’t hesitating to show the highly anticipated game during E3.
I usually don’t keep up with E3 too much, but I’ll be sure to check in during EA’s press conference on June 9 to catch even the slightest glimpse of gameplay for this one. So, to hold you (and myself) over, here’s the teaser footage that was released last year. All I can say is who knew that the battle of Hoth could look so good?
At this point, it seems that I should make an effort to give a weekly update on the world of Star Wars. So, check back next week to see what new secrets have been revealed! Until next time…
