Katie Moran

Katie MoranKatie Moran was born Catherine, but dropped the “C” and adopted the “K” in order
to confuse the masses. She grew up in Boston, but spent many an hour exploring the
wilds of Cape Cod and seeking mermaids there. She currently resides among the tall
buildings of New York City.

She has always enjoyed a bit of whimsy, and her primary nerd characteristic is being
a lover of all things fantastical. She has recently expanded her nerdery to include
some sci-fi interests. Her passions include Doctor Who, Game of Thrones/A Song
of Ice and Fire, Sherlock, Dexter, Battlestar Galactica, Tomb Raider, The Walking
Dead, Y: The Last Man, Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, niche British
television, zombies, and epic quests.

She thinks it important to share this John Green quote to preface the next part of her
bio: “Because nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff.
We don’t have to be like, ‘Oh, yeah, that purse is okay’ or like, ‘Yeah, I like that band’s
early stuff.’ Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-
can’t-control-yourself-love it. […] when people call people nerds, mostly what they are saying is, ‘You like stuff,’ which is just not a good insult at all, like ‘You are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness.’”

Katie’s passions are not confined to nerdy pursuits alone. She also is enthusiastic about making the world a greener and more loving place, practicing yoga (recently, she completed a 200-hour teacher training program in vinyasa yoga), and being an unabashed music addict, attending concerts as a matter of course.
